The Focus theme is the fifth theme released here at StudioPress which has been developed to be mobile responsive in design. The first four themes built with mobile responsive design are Balance, eleven40, Generate and Streamline.

Updating to Focus v2.0
This version underwent a major design change and code update which means there’s not an easy update path. If you’re happy with your site built on a previous version of the theme, there’s no need to update.

Theme Features
The Focus child theme includes the following features: 3 color styles (blue, brown, gray), 6 layout options, custom background, custom header, custom menus, featured images, fixed width, mobile responsive, theme options, threaded comments.

Products are cleverly aligned using jQuery masonry allowing you to cleanly showcase a great number of products on your shop pages without any wasted space. Sentient has also been fully optimised for use on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

There will be a WordPress booth at the SXSW trade show March 12-15. Our booth was packed to overflowing last year as we helped people with their blogs and gave away WordPress swag, so this year we’ll have more space to meet as many of you as possible. My name is Matt and I work in online marketing and as part of my job I am exposed to WordPress built sites on a daily basis, some great some not. This website has been created to showcase the best examples of people using WordPress in new and imaginative ways. This isn’t a showcase to show off pretty themes or plug-ins, instead it is to show off sites that have taken WordPress and used it as the framework to create something special in some way. This might mean they have added a unique ecommerce feature with a slight twist all the way up to a new way to navigate websites and anything inbetween. The size of the site or the change doesn’t matter, it is more the novelty factor I am looking for.

I’m not a web designer, far from it, but I do enjoy the freedom and power WordPress gives someone with no design skills.

Possibly the best feature of Sentient is it’s device agnostic design. That means whether you’re viewing the theme on your desktop, your tablet or your smartphone, it responds and adapts delivering an optimised design for that device.

We’ve been fans of the jQuery Masonry plugin for some time, and with WooCommerce the perfect opportunity arose to smartly implement it. Products are cleverly lined up bricks-and-mortar fashion and there’s an option to make all shop pages true-full-width to take advantage of this nifty feature.

- WooCommerce Goodness
As you’d expect, Sentient makes full use of all of WooCommerce features. We’ve painstakingly married theme and plugin to provide a seamless front-end experience. Every single one of WooCommerce widgets has been lovingly styled to match the beautiful design, as has each key component of the plugin such as the product categories, product descriptions, cart, checkout and user account sections. - Customisability
There are several colour schemes built into Sentient ensuring there is a look to match your brand identity.

- Custom Homepage
The homepage is full of options. Choose whether to display content from a recent blog post or page, how many recent, featured or best selling products to showcase and in which format, grid or slider. On top of that there’s a handy widgetised region and a simple call to action beneath the products inviting your users into the main shop section of your online store.

- Shortcodes
We’ve included two custom shortcodes in Sentient. A sticky note which you can use to highlight a message on your site and a sale banner to notify users when you’re running special offers.
